Long Time No Bloggy... Not that anyone is reading.

Little Shop is taking up all of my time. Throw in Gage's football and Monday through Thursday is a wash. The show is coming along pretty well, but I cannot believe we go up next week. My characters are coming together, now I just need some costumes.

The Gym
Nothing is going right. Went for the first time in two weeks last Friday. Two weeks from last pull, three from last squat or bench. Did a triple workout:

Squat:
The Good: No knee or hip pain, hit a solid 545 for 2 and got a Pr for a Squat with no spotter (585). Learning to trust the rack and the pin settings.
The bad: felt heavy on the 585
The Ugly: nothing

Bench:
The Good: hit 335 for 2 with handing off to myself, learned to trust the rack implicitly.
The Bad: to trust the rack, I had to miss 365
The Ugly: WAY off my target for 405+

Deadlift:
The Good: I did it.
The bad: Everything else.
The Ugly: I no longer seem to be able to drive with my legs AND my back. Its one or the other.

Now, I need to try to work in an assistance day.

The Yard
Have spent the last few weekends doing maintence on the front and back yards. Got to make an inroad into the Back 40 this weekend. Far enough that I am in "gotta finish" mode.

Had an epiphany about the garbage behind the garage. I am going to tin-up the back shelter and put all the big trash under it, then clean out the back garage by doin the same thing. Then I can use the back garage for a base of operations for yard/house work. Could not sleep for my desire to get out there and get it started. Would like to turn the front garage into a home gym, since I am lifting alone anyway.

On a Personal Note
I am trying to de-stress my life. As such, I am trying to simplify everything. Until the show is finished, I have shelved writing. No time and no reason. I truly believe that ability means little. Timing and luck are the major forces at play. It s like winning the lottery and I am not the type to be that fortuitous.

Trying to start saving. Christmas, paying the well off, fixing the car... all take money.

Until the show is over, there is no reason to force the gym three nights a week. Try to hit it when I can. Novemebr is in doubt, but it as it is.

I believe, with everything in me, that we have the ability, power and responsibility to create our own meaning from the circumstances around us. Now, to put it into practice.

Movie Weekend

The Play is really compressing my time.

So, went to work day/rehearsal with Nate on Saturday. 10:30-2:00. Got a lot done. Ate and took a nap when we got home. Watched movies this weekend.

"The Last House on the Left": eh, not terrible. Rape scene was horrific. Pacing was slow... C-

"The Fisher King": Brilliantly acted, forgotten gem. Jeff Bridges, Amanda Plummer, Michael Jeter, and Robin williams shine in this Terry Gilliam classic... A-

"Underworld: Rise of the Lycans": I was shocked. It was the best of the series. Bill Nighy and Mcheal Sheen are fantastic and their acting gives their characters credibility. So much more focused and sustained than the others in the series... B--

"I love You, Man": Funny and simple, but does nopt descend into the depths of potty humor that many do. Not as funny as I was hoping, but solid... B-

"Major League": Improbable and silly, but still fun after all these years. Particulalry Wesley Snipes and Dennis Haysbert... B-

Sunday
Actually got some stuff down around the house. Got a start on the kids room move.

Hit the gym:

Squat: up to 475/505 for 5.... felt like a ton. I can only squat every four weeks. Sad but true.
Rounded back GM: up to 315 for 5, feeling them today

Did core and cardio, so there is that.

Novenber is in jeopardy.

Nate: hit a PR 225 x 2, 245 x 1 on floor press; then a PR 345 x 5 on deadlift. I thought he would pull more, but he was whipped. Calf raises, curls, tricep pd's and abs to finish.

Chris worked out, did Cardio and tanned.

Powerlifting
The Westside Barbell hosted Pro/am was this weekend. Sean Frankle hit a huge 2630 at 198. 1055, 825, 750. People are going nuts that he is the best of all time. From the videos, the squats were hight, the benches questionable, though the pulls looked great.

The sport had evolved into a mess. The monolift squat is an abomination and the proliferation of gear masters have shot the totals through the roof. Was only ten years ago that an 800 bench was a monumental feet. The new shirts have made it pedestrian.

I have no problem with any of it as long as apples and oranges are kept seperate. From experience I know it takes a strong and dedicated lifter to master gear, but it has gotten ridiculous. The debate over gear and equipment riles powerlifters up like politics and religion in the real world. People get incensed and out of their minds. Same with Steroids.

"Little Shop..."
Feel the cast is merging well. The set is nearly finished. Nate id sounding pretty great. Assata, Ladonna and Mamie are really getting it down. I am a bit put out about the whole "Alice" Rule. People in "alice" were not supposed to be allowed in "LSoH". It has caused more harm than good. Nice to see everything is pretty much the same at WACT eight years later. Too many chiefs and WAY too many egos. C-O-M-M-U-N-I-T-Y Theatre, kids.

Writing
Debating full retirement.

Wow. Still in a funk.

The Gym
Has been sucking something fierce.

Tough squats: hit a solid 545/5 all by myself but could not make myself got 585 with no spotters.
Bench was even worse: 275/10, 295/7, 315 x 2
Deadlift was a whipper: 405 x 10 beat me up pretty bad

I redid my entire schedule to try to still do the Adel meet in Noivember, but am putting implementation on hold until Sunday. Start with squats. Just not having fun anymore.

Perhaps I need to just stop going heavy. It never seems to workout.

Yard Work
with everything going on I have not done any. Need to pull down a broken limb on the giant pine tree in the front yard.

Boots
Has decided she will not go to the bathroom when we want her to. So, she has been banished to her room (our bathroom) until she can behave.

Writing
For the 375th time in my life I decided to simply stop trying to write. That lasted about a week. Pulled out the Bones for "Union 429" and "Otherwise Hopeless". "OH" is some good stuff, but just don't see it going anywhere, so, "Union 429" it is. A super hero mystery. After trying my hand with literary and Tonic Immobility, I need to get back to what has worked for me.

Liza Ezell bought a book and had this to say:

"WOW!! I read about 1/3 third of the book, and then began again (while we were on a vacation, and I could lounge in the sun and be focused) because I enjoyed it so much! I laughed out loud when I met Will Hayes~~it was like I was in the room with Kip. Then I had to read that chapter over a few times, because I laughed so much that I wasn't able to follow the story. (How is he, btw? I hope he is doing well. Let him know that I sent along my greetings :)

It was quite a tale, and I'm now in the 'post reading but still perusing' putting everything together in my mind stage, which means I'll probably have to read most of it again to satisfy my story detail fixation.

Pete, you have a God-given 'self-honed' incredible gift. That was probably one of the best stories I've ever experienced~~okay, I'm going on and on because I know the author, I suppose. But I really mean it!! It was absolutely fabulous. Put me on the waiting list for your next book..."

Thanks, Lisa.

This is the best part about writing, having someone enjoy what you wrote. I do not care if it is the best thing they ever read, I just want them to enjoy the read. The Read is the thing. It was what I accomplished with TBT and failed with Tonic.

It is also the worst part about the process to me. This is the typical feedback I get. Some from family, some from friends. But I have not seen Lisa in nearly seventten years. Even strangers. Josh has given the book to some friends and they all enjoyed it. AND STILL no angent or publisher wants to touch it. I am perplexed. I had an agent tell me it was too long. It is shorter than Twilight and The Historian.

Stephanie Meyer once said it was a difficult process. that she got turned down, like, ten times before it was picked up. I think I have been turned down close to 100 times on the the Thread. Granted, I am not the best at researching and have double dipped with different query letters, but damn.

General Malaise
This one car deal is horrible. Embarassing. I have to come into work at 7 as well. At least I get stuff done.

Feeling low. Can't get focused or driven to do anything.

Skipped the gym last night, makes me feel like a fat ass.

Little Shop
A little unhappy. christan dropped out. A long, horrible story that just keeps getting more annoying as the time goes on. Theater people can be such pains in the ass.

NAte is doing well. I should be off book by tonight's rehersal. Don't wanna go. Feel kinda like an outsider. Talk a little to the girls (LaDonna, Assata, cindy, Mamie) and Benji, but that is about it.

Work
Been slow. Gets a guy worried. Thank god we have Phil to keep the ship righted.

Top Chef Masters
Finally, a show where America does not get to chose the winner. And the winner was my guy... or at least one of them. TCM has ruined me for the regular show. Top Chef contestents are usually a bunch of bitches (m and fm) who like to screw one another over. TCM was refreshing: respect for one another, fair play, constant give and take.

Kids
Congrats to Logan for starting college, getting a call back and an interview for a job.

Gage looks to see significant playing time on the line this year.

Nate is, as always, true to himself and is going to be great in "LSoH".

Sad Week

Wednesday
Bench day was more than a little rough. Did two boards, and it was heavy from the get go. Struggled with 345 for 3, but looked better on 365 for three. Only hit 385 for one, so...

Nate hit a huge PR on the squat, 295 for 6.

Thursday

Found out that Bill Westhead, a friend from our WACT days and a fellow(albeit more successful) writer, passed away after a championship bout with Cancer. He was truly swell guy, and one who seemed to balance between the local theatre factions without making many enemies. He was always trying to get me to go to the Writer's Conference on Jekyll Island, but I never had the money.

Christan was always touched by the fact that he had her alone in mind to play Hotlips Houllihan in MASH, insisting that she audition. She loved working with him on that show.

Friday
Another miserable deadlift workout. Rack pulls three inches below knee. 545 x 3 and five misses at 585. But, I did finish my workout and included speed work.

I think Chris and I are finished working out together. Just cannot find a common ground for motivation. She quits and I am an ass.

We got into it, but Josh came over with beer. Three of those and I was fine as paint.

Saturday
Got the front and small back yards weedeated. Had to byuy my 7th and 8th tubes of WE wires. This opposed to using half a tube over three years.

Went to the store and then went to the viewing for Bill. His wife, Gill, seemed very touched that we came.

Mowed the front and small backyard until it was two dark to see.

Found out that my Aunt Barb, who was a huge supporter of me and my writing, passed away after a long fight with Cancer. I was very saddened. I did not know her well, but she meant something to me.

I have had the opportunity of going through a few deaths in the last few years. I have seen a person pass and their life is always reflected in the emotions the living feel for them. My grandfather had a whole town come out to pay their respects. His passing leaves a void in our lives, the only times I have ever seen my father cry are when he was dealing with the death of his father.

when Christan's Dad died, I saw the havoc his life wreaked on his children. Chris and Howard were conflicted, left with negative emotions.

When Barb died, I thought it telling that a guy a thousand miles away, who maybe met her twice in his life, was hurt by the loss. A good person, one who sows support and encouragement, love and respect, may never see the return in her lifetime, but in the wake of her death, that time and energy are reflected in the hurt of the silence of the void. I mourn for her family and for the fact that I will never know her better.

Sunday
Got up and finished weedeating and mowing the back forty. Ran into town and then went to Bill's funeral. Good to see some people show. The Theatre crowd took up half the mourners.

Meant to go to the gym, but just could not make it happen. willl have to go Wednesday to Squat.

Sort of good news, Christan got offered a part in "Little Shop..." she accepted, but I worry she is going to freak out soon.

Monday
Gage started football. It did not go well. I feel like a rotten parent. should have had him doing sprints in the summer.

First real rehearsal went well. Too much blocking without focus. Christan seemed good.

Tuesday
Gage had a much better day at practice. Whew. Still will have him run sprints in the winter and summer.

There was no reason for me to be at rehearsal. Christan is freaking out as expected.

At least it is hot as hell with sweet crazy humidity.

Hope gym goes well Wednesday. I really need it to.

Should have my act one lines done by Thursday. Poor Mike is getting an ear full at work. I know my first song... not so much on the second.

Revelation

I have decided that Tonic Immobility, in its present state, is not fit for human consumption. I think I tried to hard to write a literary novel and it was just not what was in the cards. I alos tried to please the masses need for a happy ending. There was too much biography, too much easiness, too much happiness in the novel.

I want to write the book I want to write. I pretty much did it with TBT, but even then, I cut more than I wanted to. And for what? There are no agents out there who care to even look at it. the one who did, wanted me to go in a direction I did not want to go.

Now, the kicker... how to take what I have and make it what I want.

Nate
Is really doing well in the gym. Last year his best lifts were:

Squat: 315
Bench: 165
Deadlift: 335

So far this year he has hit:
Squat: 295 x 6... next week 315 x 5
Bench 180 x 5... next bench out will be 190-195 x 4
Deadlift: 315 x 8... next pull will be 365 x 6

Nate never argues and always puts his best effort into it. It would be nice for him to do well in this. I can honestly see him going 400/225/500 in November if he so decides. It is great to see his confidence grow every week. It is a shame he wants to forego wrestling. with a good coach he might do well at it.

The Gym
One week off and the rust was thick this week. Leg Press was a tough go. Wanted to hit at least 945 for 8 but wound up only getting 855 again. The good news was that I went on to finish my workout. 2 Boards felt like poop. Chris and the kids saved my ass. I hit a decent 365 for 3 and then a 385 single. Went for a double on 385 and missed. Chris, Nate and, in particularly Gage, did a great job helping me. I was not happy, but I finished my workout.

Knee was bugging me after leg presses this week, and I hurt from the knee to my neck today, so a little concerned about lifting Friday and then Sunday. Will do heavy rack pulls Friday and have to RAW squat on Sunday because of "LSoH".

Am thinking about hitting the gym after rehearsals one night a week just toi hit speed work on the bench or doing them after deadlifts. Fred reminded me how important they are AND Nate has been doing great since using them AND my 405 and 415 were done when using speed work, so...

"Little Shop of Horrors"
Nate and I both got parts in the community theatre production. A little nervous about how much singing I have to do. I cannot read music at all. Nate gets to do the Voice of Audrey Two and I get to play multiple parts, mainly Orin Scrivello, DDS. Gonna be a rough 2 months what with the gym and the show and the yard.

Oh, well, gotta fled... the books just showed up.

At some point, this has to end...

And the hits just keep a'coming!
It has been a miserable couple of weeks. The well, the septic line (still has to be fixed), the stuff with Logan's car...

Because I want to make everone happy, we went to see a friend's band in Richmond Hill. Should have begged off. We had a great time, but spent too much money. Then we moved Logan on Saturday and spent too much money. Then, while trying to fix Chris's car, I utterly ruined it. Then school clothes and supplies. I am bleeding cash right now.

All of this is my doing, I realize, it just seems like a good run of bad luck. Everything was looking so good just a month ago, now I do not know what we are gonna do.

Oh, yeah, had an opportunity arise with the book, so I sunk money for books and the website.

Do not know who I have to kill or sleep with to get the book represented. I am truly baffled. I guess my query letter sucks. Or maybe it is the book that I have gotten great feedback on. IDK.

The One Bright Spot
The website looks pretty good. I spent all day Sunday after screwing up Chris's car trying to get it to look decent. Really happy with the homepage. I keep tweaking it. Only problem is that I spent so much time on the website that I only got about two pages done in Tonic.

The Gym
Have missed a week for the first time in months. Freaking depressing. Wanted to go Sunday but after the car incident I did not care. Will probably just do this week what I missed last week. Can definately go Wednesday and Saturday... just gotta decide whether to go before rehersals tonight or tell them I cannot do it tomorrow.

Logan
Having more trouble with moving him than I thought. Worried that he is not prepared, that he is gonna screw it all up, that we did not do enough. We made so many bad decisions when we were his age that it terrifies me. The whole dynamic has changed and we exist in the wake of the change.

Yard
Really got to weedeat. Really bad.

Tonic Immobility
Trying to make myself push on. Realized how different TBT was from it original version. Stands to reason that Tonic will be require lots of changes. It is so different than the first novel. Hard to believe I wrote both of them. Like two different writers.

"So, You Think You Can Dance?"
Except for the TRAVESTY of Jeanette being gone, the final two, I think are right: Kayla and Jeanine. Kayla is hands down better, though. At least Melissa is gone.

Brandon should win this, it will be wrong if he does not. Mixed feelings about Ade going home and Evan staying. I like Evan, but I do not think he should be in the final. Don't think Ade's feet should be in the final, either, but he had a solid presence. Regardless, Brandon smokes them both, so...

I am amazed at how blind the judges can be. They fawned over Jeanine's last two routines, but I think they were weak... and I like Jeanine. Chris put it best when she said that the judges get a favorite in mind and cannot see past that. Even Brandon looked terrible with his last disco routine, but they did not call him on it.

Final should be...
1. Brandon
2. Kayla
3. Jeanine
4. Evan

but, that being said, the competition is "America's favorite dancer" not the best.

Submissions
Am thinking about submitting to some agents with the new query letter. Not hopeful. I know I should be more positive, but I never am.

A two week that should not have been...

The Well
A blown motor, so 970$ later, we have water, but the septic line is leaking again.

Yay Me!
Was able to replace the whole right side brake ssytem on Logan's car: rotor, pads, caliper AND the caliper and pads on left side. I have the confidence, but not the cash, to do a rear brake job on the BlackVan Falcon.

The Gym... ups and downs
Tuesday the 21st:
Front Squats: finally got the monkey off my back: 275 and 295 for 5. Abandoned the pads and just let the weight sit on my arms.

Thursday the 23rd:
3 Boards: 365/385 for 3 with a miss at 405 and then a single with it. Christan gave great handoffs.

Saturday the 25th:
Deadlift: sumo off plates: 455/475 x 3 four or five misses with 500... so depressed I did not finish my workout.

Have not been back yet, continue reading.

Three to Six days of vacation
Wednesday, Thursday and Friday were glorious... no work, no work phone... wonderful. Did not get a call on Saturday, so that was nice.

Derek got in Friday, it was odd.

Went ovet to Dad's on Sturday and drank beers, argued religion and played poker with Ian and Cecil. Had a good time.

Christan reported back on Monday, under the bullshit veil of looming furloughs, to find that her serp belt was gone from her engine. I went in for an hour and then went and ordered a belt to pick up when we got back from Atlanta.

Derek and I got gone for Atlanta at a little after 10. Picked up Rolling Rock in Smyrna and pulled up to the Hotel just as Gil and Suzie Gibson did. I think we had all gotten a nice pre-buzz before heading over to the Lounging Leprechaun for dinner. Had a great time at dinner. food was good but a bit steep.

Tool concert was solid: see later review.

Slept in a little Tuesday, went and saw "E' and headed back. So sleepy. Did not sleep well. Heded back to the big town at 10.

Gotr back to where all the ways cross at 2:30, went and picked up the belt then Chris, then said goodbye to Dare and then put the belt on surprisingly easy. Of course, the belt would not stay on. Called Terry, we diagnosed a loose idler pully (the one Howard and I replaced a year and a half agao). No sweat, just tighten that puppy up... and the bolt broke off in the block. Hell yeah.

Went and got what I hope are the tools to fix the damage, but have to get a bracket off that does not want to come off. This is so depressing. The well, Logan's brakes, the septic line, the weird Friday night, the expense of the Tool show and now this. Cannot take much more.

If I fix this, I will be THE man.

Yard Work
Wednesday: mowed the grass
Thursday: started the last bit o' the front yard... me and the boys moved the AC from its two and a half year resting spot. Fun.
Friday: FINISHED the front yard... except for the smilex field.
Saturday: The smilex field was freakish: prolly 25 pounds of smilex root. Crazy. Broke the shovel. But the front yard is done and done. All that remains is the back 40. Cannot belive we finished it. The front yard was a pain in the ass.
Sunday: we rested.

Tool
July 27th, 7:30 at the Gwinett Center in duluth

Setlist: predictable but solid
Jambi... A little rough, but a good start.
Stinkfist... would stand as the highlight until the second half.
46 & 2... pretty good.
Schism... really dissapointed in schism, just did not feel right.
Lost Keys *new audio*... filler, blah.
Rosetta Stoned... was looking forward to this, but MJK bailed on the scream. I had trouble hearing him during the first half of the show.
A short intermission...
Flood... blew me away. Best they sounded as a band all night.
Aenema... freaking awesome, great light show, incredible energy.
Lateralus... did not dissapoint. The drum battle with DC and the Tweak Bird drummer was special. It was amazing to be singing lateralus with 10,000 other people. They really should have ended on this note.
Vicarious... For me, the energy was spent. Vicarious was a downer after the Flood/Aenima/Lateralus set. Then, and this hurt, MJK bailed on the final part of the lyrics... the best part of the song.

And then it was done. Maynard spoke four times during the show and stayed a silluoette the whole show. Nowhere as engaging as Springstein.

The music drowned out the vocals, especially for the first part of the show.

Had a great time. 87/100. Would like to see them again... if MJK is going to be part of the show.

Tonic Immobility
Slowly making my way through. Cannot seem to build up any steam. Hate reading it. Not happy with it.

The Broken Thread
An opportunity has arisen that I hope I can take advantage of. Between the well and the cars, I am strapped, but this is the best chance The Thread has had, so...

Weekend: Highs unt Lows

Thursday
Found out that I got the part of the dentist in "Little shop of Horrors". Cool. Strange doing a show after five years.

I finally got a computer upgrade at work: Windows XP after 5 years with '98; a flat panel monitor that clashes with the rest of the gear, but it is nice to be able to see my screen.

Benched:
wanted to do boards, but noone there I could ask for 8 spots.
worked up to 330 for two sets of 4 and it felt like poo. Wanted to not do my workout, but finished. Close grips went well: 295/315/335 x 5p off three boards.

Nate pulled 315 for 8 on the deadlift. Looked good. He should pull in the mid 400's.

Friday
Went out to eat with the director of "LSH" and his wife. Got there at six and did not wind up leaving until 11:30. Had a good time, saw a bunch of people I did not expect to see, met a weird dude named "Donut" who told a few bizarre stories and got to bed late. Like 2:30.

Saturday
Got up early and decided to download AVG 8.5 free on all the computers. See Below.

Pulled a PR on Stifflegs: 315/345/365 all for eights. Saturday morning workouts whip my ass.

Got home to find that I cannot connect to the internet on my laptop and to find out that our electric bill was over 400$. So, have to shut down the office for the rest of the summer. The window unit burns wattage. Wasted the weekend trying to get connectivity once more.

Went to the store: ate garbage on the ride home: Pepsi, Milky Way, Cashews, Potato skins and a Strawberry/Cream Cheese Danish.

Cooked out on the grill: chicken turned out pretty damn good... but the fact that our well went out ruined the night. Up until 3:30.

A brake caliper went out on Logan's car, but the 1989 Cutless Ciera has a safety feature: you cannot remove the hubcap without the key that your son threw away because he did not know what it was. So we gotta get a key before we can replace the caliper. Luckily the caliper is only twelve bucks.

Sunday
Took my deep well repair skills and determined that the safety switch might be bad on the well. Took three hours to change it out... to no avail. Spent another hour trying to repressurize the tank... to no avail. Got a bad feeling.

Cleaned out the well house for the first time in five years. Straightened up the garage. Worked on the computer for 3 hours.. to no avail.

Good news, the Septic leak has dried up. As Chris said, "Maybe there is a connection."

Yard Work
Got nothing done this weekend. Nothing at all. Dad is supposed to come over today and cut down a few limbs on the Gigantic Pine Tree in the front yard, particualarly the one laying on the power line. Just not feeling it. Might feel better if the well can be fixed on the cheap and the septic stays dry.

Tonic Immobility
This is going nowhere fast. Maybe I just need to abandon it. Can't feel it. I have decided that it is never going to happen for me, so I suppose I do not see the point. For all that Chris says it is a better read than TBT, I feel the Thread should have made it. This one, not so sure.

"So you think you can Dance?"
As expected, Kupono and Randi went home. I will miss Randi's unitards and Kupona had great facial expressions. Evan is safe for at least a week. He has the benefit of being popular, but he suffers from too much evan in his routine.

It was GREAT to see Ade and Melissa in the bottom. Though, in his style, Ade is as strong as anyone... and he has a great ass. Melissa... I just don't like her.

Predictions: Going home next week: Evan and Melissa.
Jeanette is still the one to beat. that crappy routine that Brandon had to dance with Mellissa hurt him. Brandon does best out of his style. Of course, his style is the blanket contemporary, which bugs me as a style.

The Long Lonesome

The Long Lonesome
Christan and the younger kids went to Ft. Walton Beach on thursday and will not come back until later tonight. I freaking hate sleeping alone. It was a weekend of boredom:

Thursday
Went to take Benji's Batman Comics back to him. He asked me to audition for "LSoH" enough that i did it. Improved a monologue and did a pretty good job on the dentist song. Good to see Benji again. He is straight up strange but a good guy. We BS'd with his wife, mrs. Etheridge and roger for about thirty minutes after.

Went to the store to get food for weekend. Ate some questionable canned beef stew for dinner, but took the time to prep the quesadilla mix for Friday.

Finally Watched "Seraphim Falls" with Pierce Brosnan and Liam Neason. A great turn by Brosnan and by the always strong Angelica Houston. Goes a on a little too long and you get the sense the we are supposed to watching an Allegory, but it does not quite pull it off.

Seraphim Falls: C+

In bed and asleep by 11:30

Friday
The Gym: pretty bitchin deadlift workout
Deadlift
135 x 8... took stance out wider for some reason
225 x 5... ditto and awkward
315 x 3... back to normal
405 x 1
455 x 5... pretty good
500 x 5... strong, went on the three count, reset last one
535 x 4.5... ugliest DL in years, but I wanted to get past my mental block, so...

RSS +85lb DL... brutal after pulls
r/l x10/8
l/r x 10/10
r/l x 10/10

Cable Rows
140 x 12
160 x 12
180 x 12

Pulldowns
120 x 12
130 x 12
140 x 10

Stability Ball Reverse Crunch
12, 15, 15

Landmines... I like'em
55 x 20
70 x 20 x 2

Cardio 1.8 miles @30 minutes

Went home and ate my delicious Quesadilla natchos and burritos. Watched "The Perfect Storm" and started "The Talented Mr. Ripley".

The Perfect Storm: B--

Was in bed by 2: 15... asleep by three.

Saturday
Got up at nine, went into work for 45 minutes.

Frittered around and ate leftover burritos for lunch. Went to town for printer paper and some undies. Wanted to get a vacuum, but could not find a good cheap-ass one.

Printed out the MS for "Sticks and Stones" for Chris to read.

Worked Craig'slist and the phones for Logan a place to stay. Got three prospects. Tried to work on "Tonic" but did not. Cruised Facebook.

Took a nap. Watched "the Talented Mr. Ripley". Made Steak-Ummmm's for dinner.

Watched "Silent Library".

The Talented Mr. Ripley: B-

Was in bed and asleep by three.

Sunday
Up and off to Valdosta by ten-thirty. Ate at Denny's, met some cool people, made a decision on the room, got tired of driving.

Ate a pizza when we got home.

Did one tiny chapter on "Tonic".

Ate Steak-Ummm's and watched "Rushmore": one of the best ever, man.

Emailed the turn downs for Logan's rooms.

Rushmore: A

In bed by 11:15, asleep by 12.

Slow Day at the Warehouse, so...

Gym
My bench is sucking up the joint. The only upside is that I am not suffering from severe shoulder pain.
45 x 20
95 x 10
135 x 8
185 x 5
225 x 3
275 x 5... felt pretty good.
295 x 5... felt like shit. Set up for a shirted bench is not working for Raw
315 x 5... felt better, went back to a looser setup

3Board Close Grips
315 x 5... omly paused last one, felt awkward
295 x 5... paused all five. Man, Chris gives a long call.
275 x 6... felt good.

Bi's, Tri's, and core. Did Decline Sits with a 35lb plate for three sets of 15. I think I need tro go to a steeper bench. Really liked doing High Pulley Wood Choppers. Went up to 100lbs for sets of 15. Need to push the weight on this.

Really pleased with the amount of core work I have put in over the last 15 weeks or so.

Nate hit a PR 250 for 8 on squat. Really think he could hit a high 3, low 4 squat and I expect him topull over 4, maybe make a run at 500. Will not mention the Adel Meet until September.

Writing
Just hating the whole idea of it right now.

"So you think you can Dance?"
Brandon and Jeanette are hands down the best dancers on the show. They have the perfect balance of power, fluidity and adaptability. Adae and Melissa get too much love from the judges. Adae has horrible footwork and Melissa is limited. I think the flaw in Evan is that he is always Evan. Fluid and graceful, but just always Evan. Randi is adorable, but lacks something. Of course, I love Jeanine, but she is a great dancer. To beat Jeanette she is... there is no way she can beat Jeanette. Only Kayla and Melissa have a chance, but only because the judges seem to love them.

It will be interesting to see what happens when the split the couples. I hate to see Brandon and Jeanette split up, I love watching them together. The new partners are going to make it hard on the borderline dancers. I hope Randi and Evan can show something more.

Biggest surprises: Kupono and Jeanine
Biggest BS Pile: the judges calling a telegraphed lift on (I think, Jason and Kaitlin) but turning a deaf eye to three on Adae and Melissa.
Best Moment from this week: the giving of the ring in the routine of Evan and Randi... that was great.
Best Routine: Brandon and Jeanette, both the Argentinian and the JAzz. They cannot be beat.
Best Dancer: Brandon
Who's Gone: Philip or Evan on the male side/ Kaitlin or Randi on the female
Worst Moment from this week: the russian Folk Dance (Philip and Jeanine); not their fault, it was goofy.

The Grab Bag of Pete's Week

The Gym
Hit a huge PR on Rack pulls last Saturday. 635 x 3, 675 x 1. Followed up with power cleans, ending with 175 x 8... big man.

GREAT Squat workout Monday: 455/500/535 for 5's all RAW with no spotters. So far, squatting once every four weeks is not hurting me.

Nate hit two Bench PR's: 155/165 x 5

The Return
Have nailed down a powerlifting meet for my third triumphal return: first week in November: Buddy Duke's meet in Adel.
Goals: 675-700 RAW on Squat
415-435 RAW on Bench
anything over 600 on the dl... Really want 625-645, but we will see.
Would love to total over 1700 RAW.

The Yard
Put it to it this past weekend, with 4 days straight. Friday was mowing ans sweeping, Saturday Weedeating, Sunday more weedeating and Smilex fun and ant poison, Monday back to the fence. We are 3/4's of the way done with the front yard fence. Got the growth over the septic done... now we know we have a leak... great. Kids are making progress in the back 40. Might be finished by the end of summer, but I doubt it.

Tonic Immobility
I really wonder why I bother writing. It is a tough edit. Did not realize how bad Tonic was until I started reading it. Have the first chapters edited, felt pretty good, then read chapter eight. Smells like poopy.

"The Jug"
Lozano and I are on hiatus.

Lonely
Chris, Nate and Gage are heading to Florida for the weekend. Leaving tomorrow at nine. I hate sleeping alone... and for five days, mind you. Prolly do a lot of yard work. I am an exciting guy.

The Downswing... yup, one word.

Gym
Decided to mix it up a little and did leg presses for the first time in years... like 5. I tried to have good ROM and assumed a 45 lb cage.
135 x 10
225 x 10
315 x 10
405 x 10
495 x 10
585 x 10
675 x 10
765 x 10
855 x 10... felt pretty good. That is a lot of sets. Hope to go over a thousand pounds nextr time.

Did explosive leg curls with light weight. The leg curl machine at the gym is just not built for me. Calves, Core and Cardio to round out. Cut Cardio to 20 minutes. felt like shit.

Nate did three boards:
135 x 3
155 x 3
175 x 3
195 x 3
210 x 1
210 x 2... he was dissapointed in himself, but it was his first time.

Yard Work
All finished wit the fron and have made solid progress against the front yard fence. Might have the whole shebang done by the end of summer.

Alone Weekend
The kids and Chris will not be going to FLA until next weekend. Downside is that Logan is going so I will be by my lonesome for the whole weekend.

The Downswing of Writing
Last sunday it all seemed so very right and clear. Come Monday I just did not want to do it anymore. The Broken Thread is never gonna sell, I have not eheard back from anyone on their reaction; Tonic... is going to be a monster to edit and upon reading it again, I think it sucks; Merkaba is a bloody mess; The Jug has stalled, Lozano has no time and I have no desire: good combination.

It is tough. You want to believe that you are good at something, but there is very little reinforcement to keep you going.

Having Logan edit th ebook is a blessing and a curse. He is brutally honest, but he is brutally honest. Learned from the best I suppose.

Typical me. the high from the weekend was nice, then the down swing (downswing) after. Sucks.

Monday, June 29, 2009

Nothing like a Monday... Except for the Indianapolis 500.

So, the plan was to work in the yard Friday night, but Chris wanted to go to town. We wound up doing just that and spending a fair amount of money, BUT... it was all on stuff we needed for the yard and such.

Saturday we had to hit the gym:
Pulled ME Sumo deadlifts all reset reps
135 x 8
225 x 5
315 x 3
405 x 3... so very slow
435 x 3... same speed as 405, but kept my form
455 x 3... form was off on first rep, good on second two; back started to hurt
475 x 3... ditto the above
500 x 1... Bent over a fair amount, but pulled with good strenght.

RSS, Cables, Pulldowns, SBCrunch, Bent Press and cardio on the bike because my back could not take the treadmill. A rough workout.

Chris and Nate had good workouts.

My back continues tobe an issue. It just pops out of place sometimes. May have to swap bench for squats to night in order to avoid further pain.

Date Night(afternoon)
We went to eat and see a movie Saturday afternoon. I will never be eating at Dick's Wings and Grill again. Last three times have been a dissappointment. The portions are small for what you pay and it took 30 minutes to get our food... with 5 tables in the whole joint occupied. I am a patient fellow, but it is just de rigeur with them anymore.

Went and Saw "The Hangover". B--: Very funny, but it was so promising in the beginning, then it unraveled. Seemed like it was going to a smart comedy, a la Wes Anderson, but did not fulfill. Well acted and shot, but descended into goofiness. Plus, I hate the hooker with a heart of gold character. Zach Galfinikis (sp) was brilliant. Danzig's "Thirteen" is featured in the Vegas opening... great song.

Yard Work
Got up early on Sunday to get started on the yard work. Were out in the shit by 8. finished up at noon. The good news is that we are finally done with the front of the property. Bab news is there were more frickin' bricks to contend with. With the boys help we are making progress.

Got a cool tool for a specific job and it works pretty well. Like a small pitchfork on a long pole, with bent tines, about the size and shape as a hoe. Got it to dig up the bulbs for the crazyassstickervine. As long as the buld is not wrapped in with roots, the thing workd great. Works for any bulb plant, but we need it for Crazyassstickervines.

"Merkaba"
Finished up Saturday and ran through my stuff on Sunday to be sure I was done. Wound up being just under 64K. Lots of holes, but the ending is strong. Gotta figure out where it is going. Looks like it is going to either be my shortest or longerst book to date. Debating on letting Chris read it. Afraid it does not make anysense.

"The Jug"
Had trouble getting to it this weekend but put down 2300 words Sunday, putting us over 20K. This is turning into a monster. I will never do a triliogy, but a quadrilogianay, that I might be willing to do.

Tonic Immobility
Blackmailed Logan into finishing a line edit. So, I will be starting my line edit based on his and Chris's feedback today. Scared. Have to get it down to 105K. Hopefully can have it done for readers by the end of July.

My BIL Josh has asked to read the draft that C and L have read, and I do have a copy, but it is flawed. This will be the first time I have looked at it in 4 months, I think. Fresh eyes. Hope it is a good thing. Nervous about Logan and chris's comments. Both are grammer nazi's and Logan has to pay me back for 18 years of brutal honesty.

The Broken Thread
Gage read it and seemed, or said, he liked it. He really liked the fact that it bounced around. Some people don't like that aspect of it.

Nate is reading it now.

Waiting on feedback from Gloria Dale, Mel, April and sister Kim. Its tough when you only sell 4 books. You have to worry about what everyone thinks.

Whooped my own rear at the gym... oh, yeah, christan helped out.

Front Squat
45 x 10
135 x 8
185 x 5... felt much more in control than last time
225 x 5
250 x 5... PR
275 x 1... dumped the bar forward. Lucky I had the spotter bars set high. Pissed with myself

Double Siezures

Calf raises on Leg Press Machine

Situps with medicine ball and a horrible twisting motion... oh, with pauses on the up And the Down

Machine Crunches

Cardio2.01 miles in 30 minutes with 5 of the 6 runs at 90 seconds... stoked because I did not think I was gonna get the 2 mile

Christan was badass on the Good mornings: hit 95, 115 and 135 for 5 very strong

Nate seemed to have fun with the floor presses:45 x 10
95 x 5
135 x 3
155 x 3
175 x 3
190 x 3
200 x 3
215 x 1
225 x 1
I think it was good for him to get to feel heavier weight and still be able to complete the lift.

"Sticks and Stones" aka "Merkaba"
is rolling along well. After last night's session I question if I will be over 70,000 words. I cut a huge chunk out last night. Might be able to use it in the rewrite, but I don't know.

"The Jug"
Wrote a big section yesterday, kind of rambly, but has some decent stuff in it. Do not know where to go with it today.

Obsessed
Interesting TV show that looks at people with OCD and their treatment with CBT. Last night was like the 4th episode and it is getting a little stale. It did feature a guy who therapy just was not working out. I would like to see them tackle some other disorders with some other styles of counseling.

Boots!
I just wanna point out: that dog loves me. Of course, she loves attention and scraps more than she loves any one person, but what are you gonna do.

Tonic Immobility
I am looking forward to the line edit, but a little wary about it. Christan was not exactly happy with the content, so I worry she will have made some comments that might be hard to take. Would like to get some objective feedback. Right now I know of one definate reader and possibly a second. Once the line edit is done, will try to put the call out . Need a minimum of 5 dissparate readers.

The big issue is gonna be getting that thing down from 120K to 105K. Tough bidness.

Water
On weekdays I drink a minimum of 5 liters of water a day (1 and 1/4 gallons). Lately have been close to 1.5 gallons. Drank 2 gallons last night. Not trying to, but it is so damn hot.

Monday, June 22, 2009

Ah, Monday.

Hit the gym with the family on Saturday. Pulled stiffleg deadlifts off two plates with a pad between them:
135 x 8
225 x 8
295 x 8
315 x 8
335 x 8... my back is bothering me.

Did RSS with a 65 pund Dumbell... this always impresses the wife.

Tried BO rows but my back would not comply. Switched to one arms.

Really like the bicycle bar pulldowns.

Did pulley rope crunches. Did not feel them until I had 220 lbs... I got me some strong abs/core

Did bent presses, took me four sets to "get" them. Like the combo of the pulley crunches and bent press.

Cardio... still at 2.02 miles, but all my runs were done at 90 seconds. Slowly but surely.

Christan did conventional pulls with 135 for 2 easy sets of ten. Sexy.

Gage got the motion for hang cleans and put forth a good effort on assistance work.

Nate had a rougher bench workout than last time, but he will get it.

Need to get everyone lifting straps.

Yard Work
Been slacking as of late. Did two hours in the back 40 Friday. Hot as hell even at 7:30 at night. Between the gym and grocery store on Saturday, there was no going out to the yard. Hit it for about two hours Sunday. Drenched. The good news is the fence dividing the back yard from the back 40 is finished,, and we are 90 percent done with the front of the yard facing the street.

Father's Day
Got some cool stuff and it is the one year anniversary of being Boots's daddy.
Logan: Rorshach shirt
Gage: Ghostbuster's shirt that glows inb the dark
Nate: two sweet Mustang Die Casts: 68 GT-500, 70 Mach 1
Christan: Wolverine: Search for Mr. Sinister Play set. That's love. Had a Wolverine AND a Cable... plus an X-23
Mary-in-law: Grill master Tee, bunch of candy and a NEW Wallet...been waiting months to get a new wallet.

Merkaba
The third book is rolling right along now. Should be at or around 70K... at 53 now.

Tonic Immobility
As soon as Merkaba is done, I can do a line edit on Tonic. hope to have it done by August.

Collaborative Jug
Joe and I seem to be heading in the right diresction. already at 10K words. Seems to be rolling well.

The Buzz: the Bad... waiting for the Good and Ugly to ...wait there's Ugly now. Now Good, let's get to gettin'

Firstly, my happiness at my top 300K was short lived. The hardcover has slipped all the way back to like 450,000+. Ah, well.

Forgot the website was listed on the back of thebook and now the website doesn't exist. So, I feel like a schmo. Do I want to reup and do another site?

Abs still hurt from the beating I gave them Wednesday.

Have to drive and hour and fifteen muinutes to Tifton tonight. Fun. Have to hit the gym first thing in the morning. Probably have to go to the store to. Might have to put yard work off until sunday and Tuesday again. BUT... I did get some weed eater "blades" last night, so I am prepared for it. The boys have been working a little bit each day on the back 40 (our second, bigger back yard) and while they are doing a good job, they are not as thorough as their father.

Oh, there is a bit of good... Gloria Dale in Wisconsin got her book yesterday. Thanks, G. Hope you like it.

Looking forward to the weekend.

Just hit 50.000 words in "Sticks and Stones" the third novel. Hope to get a few more when I get back from tifton, if it is not too late.

The collaborative "The Jug" is still in its infancy stage, but the first 1700 words are down on "paper."

Listening to Clutch right now while hitting the treadmill and the yard. Really need to From Beale Street to Oblivion, "Electric Worry" and "King of Arizona" are great songs.

T-minus 38 days until I head off to see Tool in Duluth.
